Exploring the Athens Acropolis

I had never considered Greece as a possible vacation destination, but after watching a documentary on the ancient Greeks on cable, I was inspired enough to take my holiday in Athens along with a girlfriend of mine. Neither of us were disappointed.

After a long flight, we landed at the Athens airport and took a taxi into the city to the hotel. We were on fairly strict budgets, so the hotel extremely basic, but it was central and clean, so that was enough. For the most part, the few days we spent in Athens were spent walking. Since it was our first visit, our main goal was to see the Acropolis, and walking from the hotel, it was almost always in clear view. We just kept walking towards it, taking in everything we saw on our way. As we drew near, we were overwhelmed by its size and beauty, even though it was under restoration work. What a magnificent complex! There is so much to see there – the Parthenon, Temple of Athena, the Theater of Dionysus, and more. We spent several hours there before finally heading back to the hotel, stopping along the way at a small, family-run restaurant for some mousaka, Greek salad, and a little retsina accompanied by some traditional bouzouki music. It was a fantastic day that I will always remember.

Gone Fishing

Fishing is a relaxing way to unwind from all the worries we carry around with us everyday. The best part about fishing is being able to get together with your best friend or a favorite buddy, throw some lines in the water, and kick back with a cold one. Nothing beats fishing.

National forests and parks are the best places to throw a line. These areas are typically well stocked. You are sure to get a bite there. Set the home security plan, stock the cooler, bring a chair, and kick back under a tree. The quiet is so relaxing. Feel a soft breeze and reel in that bite.

The water is so clear and beautiful at the national parks as well. You can see clear to the bottom of the stream. If you like fly fishing the purity of the water really adds to the experience. The dog can run free in most of the parks as well. Your best friend will love splashing around in the streams, and having his own hand at attempting to catch the fish.

Golf Course Choices

People who love golf and have not yet been fortunate enough to visit Myrtle Beach golf courses are missing some of the best golfing in America. Just the sheer number of available golf courses is staggering – there are close to 80 courses in the area known as South Carolina’s “Grand Strand.” This area of practically endless gold tees and greens stretches along the South Carolina coastline all the way up to, and in to, North Carolina.

First time visitors should probably log on to http://www.myrtlebeachgolf.net and read up on the different courses and greens fees. Some of the courses are lit at night and some are open at the crack of dawn. If you are serious about marathon golfing, you can easily play 36 holes in one day.

Myrtle Beach golf packages can include discounts on greens fees and cart rentals, plus discounts on the hotels or resorts in the area. You can even arrange your tee times online and have everything set up before you leave home.

The Ocean & A Good Game of Golf

I’ve heard that Myrtle Beach is getting a large amount of people this summer season. Since the major oil company, B.P. has trashed so many of the other beaches, folks are finding that Myrtle Beach has nice clean water and beaches to offer the general public and is welcoming them with open arms.

Summer is almost over and I don’t have any vacation days left for this year, but I would like to look into visiting Myrtle Beach next summer. I have not been there for a good long while and it would be good to see how it has changed since I’ve been there last. I enjoy the ocean and enjoy a good challenging game of golf and Myrtle Beach has both of these qualities.

I was online earlier and found a website http://avistaresort.com that is advertising some nice looking and sounding resorts in Myrtle Beach that I’d love to stay at next year. It is great that the Internet makes find a good Myrtle Beach hotel a much easier task to tackle. I have plenty of time to find the perfect accommodations and will keep you posted on what I discover.

In Plain Sight

I saw a story on the TV last week that was addressing the issue of how important it is to have a mailbox that has your information on it that is easy to read, especially at night. It seems that there are a good amount of mailboxes that are preventing the police, ambulance and fire fighters from getting to where they need to be in an emergency situation. This could be a life or death situation that could be prevented if more people made sure that their mail boxes were set up with easily read information.

I know that in the city that I grew up in the city had the street addresses painted on the curbs to help with this type of issue, but I imagine that with all of the budget cut backs most places can’t afford to take on the cost of something like that. So it is up to the individual resident to make sure that they properly display the numbers, and for their own good.
