Mexico City and the sights

Contributed by Johnny Graves

I’ve been wanting to visit Mexico for a long time now for a variety of reasons. I’ve used my clearwire at home to look up all the things to do there like eating and day trips. I know I want to fly into Mexico City and check out the architecture and culture – it’s a dangerous place but not if you know where to go. I actually have some family there, too, so I know I could stay with them and they’d show me around. While I’m there I’ll probably venture out to the Yucatan peninsula to see some of the beautiful beaches. I’ve heard the white sand and green ocean are a sight to behold. I! know there are also some ancient ruins out that way that are supposed to be culturally fascinating. I’d love to visit a coco plantation while I’m there to see how they harvest Mexican chocolate. I have a feeling I could get some great souvenirs at a place like that! I wouldn’t even mind smelling like chocolate afterwards!

Medical advances

I was always a big fan of the television show The Six Million Dollar Man. The progress that the medical field has made in respect to replacing damaged/missing body parts always amazes me. This video shows a demonstration of a young man who recently received a bionic hand. I can imagine that he is thrilled to have it!

Shrinking dishes

I can remember the first Satellite TVdish that we got back in the early ’80s. That thing had a ten foot diameter! We had it in the side yard where we only saw it from a couple of windows, so it really wasn’t too distracting for us. At the time we thought we were the most technologically savvy couple in the neighborhood!

The reason that we got that back then was because we lived out in the country and the only other options were the old fashioned analog antenna with a rotator on it. We got three channels out there. Cable wasn’t even considering coming out to our place! So when I got a big bonus from work I spent it all on a dish. If I recall correctly, it cost me several thousand dollars at the time, but it was amazing! We got hundreds of channels!

Now as satellite services have evolved, the average consumer can afford a small dish from Direct TV that is hardly noticeable from any where at all. And as the dishes themselves have shrunk, the channel lineups have grown. I’ll be interested to watch the further growth of this industry.

What a Bond

Guest post written by Jamison Miller

The other day, I was looking up Digital Hearing Aids online, when I decided that I really wanted my wife and me to plan an event with our son Even. My son and I both graduated from the same university, and we both have that special bond that comes with sharing a similar life experience. We love our alma mater very much, and we are large supporters of our athletic program. Throughout college football season, my wife and I brought our son to several home games and had a really terrific experience. In another weekend or two, I would to take a trip with my son to our school’s basketball museum. Our school has ! had a very success team, and the museum has an extensive collection of memorabilia from over one-hundred years of basketball history.

I feel like going to the museum will get us geared up for the rest of college basketball season. I feel it will also give us a great sense of pride, remembering that we attended a university that has produced world class athletics and a program in the country. I think it will really be special trip for us!

Not your average key-logger

So while our dog was off seeing the countryside the last time, my wife spent some time on the Internet looking to see if we could buy a GPS tracking device to put on her collar. We actually found a few different devices that would work, but they sure are expensive! We found one that wasn’t very expensive to buy, but then there was a monthly fee for the tracking service that we really would prefer not to have to pay.

While looking around for that tracking device, it was amazing to see how much technology has advanced in the general field of security. For example, the old fashioned computer Key logger devices seem to be obsolete due to the invention of a small USB iBot that is the size of a thumb drive and you only plug it into your computer for a few moments while it downloads the security file onto your computer. So that little device helps you keep track of what your computer is doing while you’re not at home! Isn’t it amazing what technology does nowadays!
