Shiraz Boghani has been a figurehead in the hospitality industry for over 30 years. His buildings range from high-end hotels to senior homes. Although Boghani started his career in the United Kingdom in 1969 as a chartered accountant with the firm Thomson McClintock, he found his true passion in real estate and has since made a huge impact in the world of hospitality by assuring quality, style, and service in each of his ventures.
His main projects have been Soujourn Hotels LLP and Sussex Healthcare Limited. He is the chairman and a founding partner of Soujourn Hotels LLP. And the joint chairman of Sussex Healthcare. For Sojourn Hotels, Shiraz Boghani has overseen both hotel portfolio and single asset deals. For Sussex Healthcare, he helped to develop new ways of approaching healthcare and quality living for senior citizens by expanding the organization to include 18 senior homes which serve over 500 beds. With each project he has focused on the idea that service is an integral part of a brand, therefore the quality of the building has to match the quality of care each customer receives while spending time there.
His current focus is working as the director and managing partner of the Splendid Hotels group – one of the most rapidly growing companies in the field of private hotels in the UK– and his original hotels are the Grand Hotel & Spa in York, the Conrad London St. James, and the Holiday Inn London. His newer buildings include Mercure Bristol Brigstow Hotel and Leeds’ New Ellington. His most recent project has been the acquisition of the Hilton London Bankside, a dazzling experiment in architecture and design hoping to attract visitors and maintain loyal guests.
Shiraz Boghani has demonstrated his desire to give back and support others using the wealth he has earned. He notoriously supports the Aga Khan Foundation, a charity in the UK and worldwide (known as the Aga Khan Development Network internationally). His personal work includes close ties with Agha Khan University by aiding its Arbitration Board, National Council, and Resource Development Convener.
His work has been honored with awards in recent years, specifically when Sussex Health Care was recognized with the Gold Standard Framework for End of Life Care in 2016 for excelling in the care of its members. That same year, he was also awarded the Asian Business Awards Hotelier of the Year. During his acceptance speech, he demonstrated his humility and managerial skills by highlighting the skills and talents of his workforce. It is clear that his magnanimity has helped Shiraz Boghani to lead some of the fastest growing and most successful organizations in the world.
