I always get nervous when I hear that someone is sick and is “self medicating.” It makes me think that they have a condition that should be treated by a doctor and that they are resorting to using illegal drugs instead of buying a prescription.
Having said that, my poor wife has a sinus infection and she is miserable. Thankfully her doctor has given her a prescription so she should be feeling better in a few days. But she is left with how to treat the symptoms in the meantime. The “day time” medicines don’t address her runny nose, and watery eyes. The “nighttime” medicine addresses it all but strangely enough it keeps her awake! Wired, but groggy! So she has started to “self medicate” and take a half dose of “day time” and a half dose of “night time” medicines. That seems to work the best for her. I think it sounds strange, but if it works, then I’m all for it!
My wife is all about keeping the inside of the house clean and tidy. She gets upset whenever she sees mud tracked in on the kitchen floor, or on the living room carpet. And she wants all of the dishes either put away in the cupboards, or in the dishwasher. She gets really annoyed when she comes into the house and sees dirty dishes and cups and glasses just on the kitchen counter or in the sink. She would like to have the inside of the house look like something from the Home & Garden magazine!
Me, I’m all about the yard, the outside of the house, and the garage. I want them to be as nice looking as possible. I’d like to put awnings over the windows, and an address plaque at the end of the sidewalk near where it meets the driveway. I think that address plaques really give a home a touch of “class.” I’ve seen some really great looking home address plaques in town when I go out to run errands, and I’d like to get one for our house too.
Well, we had a Mother’s Day gathering at our place yesterday afternoon. Several of my siblings attended, which was really nice. It’s nice to let a mother see as many of her kids as possible on Mother’s Day, don’t you think? After dinner we dragged Mom to the computer and showed her the youtube video of The Mom’s Song. She had never seen it before, and she got a huge kick out of it! Then I showed her my blog and she started asking questions about the Internet, and said she was thinking about maybe starting a blog of her own. She asked me how to go about doing that, and I told her that I would help if she wanted me to.
Well, she is an independent woman and she said she’d like to do as much of it as she could if I would just send her information via email to point her in the right direction. So I told her that I’d do exactly that. I emailed her the link to a great web hosting rating and review site. I told her that she should read their reviews and articles. Since she is environmentally concerned I suggested that she consider using their recommended green web hosting companies.
I was reading an article on the msnbc website about how a teenage boy who attends a Christian private school in Ohio that forbids dancing, rock music and handholding has been suspended because he went to his girlfriend’s prom. At the prom, they danced to rock music and held hands! Oh the shame! I understand that some religions forbid certain activities, but I think that this school suspension is a little bit extreme!
My nephew is a major Freecycle enthusiast. Every time I see him, or hear from him he is talking about the great things he has gotten from Freecycle. He has managed to snag a lot of furniture, clothes, and appliances to name just a few things. Most recently he found himself in the position of finding an offer of a free spa. So he sent in his request for it, and he was awarded it!
The spa is in great shape. It’s only a couple of years old. I’m not sure why the original owners wanted to give it up, but since we live in an area where there are a lot of people who have plenty of money to spend, my guess is that they decided to replace it with a bigger spa, or maybe just even a different color. But that’s not the point. The point is that he got a great barely used spa for free. All he had to do was go pick it up! For that he asked me to come help him because he needed a large trailer to haul it to his place. So I helped him this weekend to go get the spa and take it back to his place. It looks like it is in great shape, except for the spa cover. He is going to need to buy a new one. So my wife is going to help him find some spa covers that will fit his spa over the Internet and order it for him. While we’re waiting for that to come in I’ll help him with the installation of the spa. Then we’ll get to enjoy it with him when we go visit him. Which I am assuming will be a lot more often now!
