Earth Day

Today is Earth Day.  I joined in with a neighborhood group that went out and picked up the trash and garbage alongside the neighborhood roads.  Then we had a nice pot-luck meal at one of the neighbor’s houses.  We talked about ways we can reduce our carbon footprint, and agreed that we would join together to take turns making “recycling runs” to help each other with our recycling efforts.  Kind of like carpooling with our kids, only it will be carpooling with our recycling!  Pretty neat idea, huh?  (It was my idea!)  Well, my arm is sore from patting myself on the back, so that’s all I’ll say for now!  I hope you all have found ways to help reduce your own carbon footprint!

Going back to school

I keep hearing that with so many people losing their jobs, this is a good time to go back to school while looking for a new job.  For many people, an online degree will fit into their lifestyle the best because they will be able to take the courses they need without having to commute long distances, or perhaps even have to live on campus, the way so many mortar and brick colleges require their new students to do.  A good resource for finding out more information about taking college classes online is through the .allonlineschools.com website.  I was checking it out for myself because I was interested to see what was available to me – and found a diploma course in dog obedience training!  I’ve always been interested in dog obedience.  I wonder if I took the course if I could find a career in running obedience training courses!

There is a leash law, people!

I’ve always been a “dog person: and take my responsibility as a pet owner very seriously. When my dogs go outside, they are either in the fenced back yard or they are on a leash.

The last couple of weeks we have had other people’s dogs in our yard at all hours of the day and night. I guess some of our neighbors think it is OK to just let their dogs run free after dark. I have a big problem with that, and hope to find out who the dog owners are and maybe have a talk with them. It is for the safety of their dogs as well as my dogs that they stay in their own yards or be on a leash. I have had at least 3 times since we’ve lived here that other people’s dogs have attacked my dogs – every time my dogs were tied!

I hate to think that I’ll have to call animal control about this, but I really am quite annoyed over this situation!

Killed a snake

On my way to work yesterday, I accidentally ran over a snake. When I first saw it I thought it was a stick, but when I got up close I saw it was moving. I tried to straddle it, but the snake was moving too fast and I accidentally ran over it. When I looked in the mirror I saw it writhing around and curling up and I felt kind of bad about it. I wonder how many other people would feel bad about running over a snake?

Broken window air conditioner

Well, our window unit air conditioner broke last night. I got it out of storage to get it ready to put in the bedroom window, and we were giving it a test run. It wouldn’t run at all. We have a window unit air conditioner in the master bedroom to run at night to keep us cool while we sleep so we don’t have to run the whole house air conditioner all night. We THINK that will save us money on the electric bill. We’ve had the unit for about ten years, so I can’t complain too much, we certainly got our money’s worth out of it! The newer models are probably more energy efficient, too, so I will be going out to buy a new one today! It’s just never a good time to have to replace something new, you always have to rearrange your budget!
