Yesterday I went to the pharmacy to pick up some allergy medicine for my wife. The poor dear has been suffering from her spring allergies and had run out of her antihistamine. She likes one of the brands that you have to buy from behind the pharmacy counter. What a pain in the neck it is to have to go through all of that rigamarole to buy something that is supposed to be “over the counter” medicine with no prescription required!
But that is not the point of this post. While standing in line to be waited on, I heard a guy at the counter telling the pharmacist that he wanted to buy all of the Tamiflu in the pharmacy so he could sell it online and make a huge profit off of the fears of ”the people” catching the swine flu! Well, the pharmacist told him that he needs a prescription to buy Tamiflu, and he tried to argue with her. Of course he went home empty handed, but I was quite angered by his desire to try to hoard the medicine and make a fortune with it over the Internet! What a low-class kind of guy!
My neighbor tells me that he has been making some extra money by taking online surveys. I was really surprised and skeptical about that because in past years I tried that and all I ever got was lame attempts by the companies to get me to buy their products. They would offer me gift cards if I participated in a very long survey AND took some of their “special offers” which always led to me spending more money than the gift card was going to be worth!
But my neighbor assures me that there is an opinon site called MyOpinionNow that really does pay money for surveys. He says it is free to join, and there are no catches. I’ve been looking through the site and it does look promising. I think I’ll give it a try!
Getting involved in Online Trading is a good way to start creating a stock portfolio. There is no high sales pressure from a stock-broker who is trying to sell you something that his company is pressuring him to promote. A good Online Broker to check out is the firtrade.com website. Their prices for Stock Trading are very competitive. By becoming a customer, you can trade in Stocks, Options, Mutual Funds, ETFs and Fixed Incomes.
I like the idea of trading in Fixed Incomes; it seems like a pretty safe bet that the money will generate a return. One of the things that I really like about this particular website is that it has a Knowledge Center where you can look up what something means and not feel totally stupid! Have you ever been afraid to ask a person a question for fear of looking stupid? Well, this Knowledge Center eliminates that fear! It gives you everything you need to know about investing your money in the stock market!
The other day I was in a conference with several of my colleagues. It was a pretty important conference. In the middle of the conference, one of the women’s cell phone started to ring. Much to my amazement she took the call without even leaving the room! I though pretty much everyone knew that cell phone etiquette mandates that in situations like this if you take the call, you leave the room. But no, she proceeded to have a very loud and heated discussion with whoever it was that was calling in front of everyone right there!
I was amazed that when she finished the call she just returned to the meeting as if nothing happened. Everyone was glaring at her, and it didn’t faze her at all! What nerve!
There is a new social networking site my sister has been telling me about that she has joined. This network is not about getting a date, it is about sharing information and opinions about things that you like/dislike. Basically like product reviews from your peers.
She was interested in it because she has been thinking about buying a new puppy, and wasn’t really sure what kind to get. A friend of hers told her about the networking site and suggested that she join it and see if there were any comments on it about different types of dogs, so she could get a better idea of what kind might be a good dog to get for her family.
So she went to the pet networking site and found that there were a lot of different pets reviewed there. She did notice that it seemed as if the same person was writing the same review for a lot of the different pets; that made her wonder exactly why that was the case. She said that the wording was almost identical. So she didn’t quite trust those reviews as much as the others that sounded unique.
Today is Earth Day. I joined in with a neighborhood group that went out and picked up the trash and garbage alongside the neighborhood roads. Then we had a nice pot-luck meal at one of the neighbor’s houses. We talked about ways we can reduce our carbon footprint, and agreed that we would join together to take turns making “recycling runs” to help each other with our recycling efforts. Kind of like carpooling with our kids, only it will be carpooling with our recycling! Pretty neat idea, huh? (It was my idea!) Well, my arm is sore from patting myself on the back, so that’s all I’ll say for now! I hope you all have found ways to help reduce your own carbon footprint!
I keep hearing that with so many people losing their jobs, this is a good time to go back to school while looking for a new job. For many people, an online degree will fit into their lifestyle the best because they will be able to take the courses they need without having to commute long distances, or perhaps even have to live on campus, the way so many mortar and brick colleges require their new students to do. A good resource for finding out more information about taking college classes online is through the .allonlineschools.com website. I was checking it out for myself because I was interested to see what was available to me – and found a diploma course in dog obedience training! I’ve always been interested in dog obedience. I wonder if I took the course if I could find a career in running obedience training courses!
I’ve always been a “dog person: and take my responsibility as a pet owner very seriously. When my dogs go outside, they are either in the fenced back yard or they are on a leash.
The last couple of weeks we have had other people’s dogs in our yard at all hours of the day and night. I guess some of our neighbors think it is OK to just let their dogs run free after dark. I have a big problem with that, and hope to find out who the dog owners are and maybe have a talk with them. It is for the safety of their dogs as well as my dogs that they stay in their own yards or be on a leash. I have had at least 3 times since we’ve lived here that other people’s dogs have attacked my dogs – every time my dogs were tied!
I hate to think that I’ll have to call animal control about this, but I really am quite annoyed over this situation!
As more people are turning to the Internet to try to find ways to promote their business, or personal interests, such as blogging, there have cropped up a lot of different web hosting service companies. A lot of people think that getting a domain name is all there is to it, but there is a lot more to creating a website than that! Just as important as getting a great sounding domain name, web hosting is vital. Without web hosting, no one will see the website!
Although there are a lot of “free” web hosting services available, they are very restrictive, and usually require that you do not have your own domain name as the root – the domain names are simply extensions of their own domain name. That can be fine for something like a personal blog, but for a business that just really won’t help you very much in the way of promoting your business. A REAL domain name, and a REAL web hosting service is the best way to go. Of course, with the economy being so bad right now, it is vital to make sure that you get the best value for your money. That is why comparing different web hosting services is a good idea. The website webhostinggeeks.com is a website dedicated to helping you pick out the best ones.

On my way to work yesterday, I accidentally ran over a snake. When I first saw it I thought it was a stick, but when I got up close I saw it was moving. I tried to straddle it, but the snake was moving too fast and I accidentally ran over it. When I looked in the mirror I saw it writhing around and curling up and I felt kind of bad about it. I wonder how many other people would feel bad about running over a snake?
Well, our window unit air conditioner broke last night. I got it out of storage to get it ready to put in the bedroom window, and we were giving it a test run. It wouldn’t run at all. We have a window unit air conditioner in the master bedroom to run at night to keep us cool while we sleep so we don’t have to run the whole house air conditioner all night. We THINK that will save us money on the electric bill. We’ve had the unit for about ten years, so I can’t complain too much, we certainly got our money’s worth out of it! The newer models are probably more energy efficient, too, so I will be going out to buy a new one today! It’s just never a good time to have to replace something new, you always have to rearrange your budget!
bring May flowers. At least that is what the age old adage says. But so far this month it has not rained much. I wonder if this is a bad start to the spring? I’d hate to think that this is the beginning of a drought! I really enjoy seeing my flower garden alive and lush, and although I have planted drought tolerant plants, it always looks nicer if there is plenty of rainfall. And I was hoping to plant a few new shrubs in a couple of weeks, hoping that the natural rainy season would help me be lazy and not have to water the shrubs every day.
My niece just can’t seem to make up her mind what she wants to do with her life. She bounces around from job to job, only working for about a month or two in one place before leaving it. At first she says she really likes the job, but the initial euphoria wears off fairly quickly. She keeps talking about wanting to go to one of the massage therapy schools and becoming a massage therapist. I always tell her that I think that is a great idea. She’s a good worker, and has plenty of upper body strength.
The big catch for her though, is that she insists that she wants to go to school in Hawaii. Well, her folks can barely support their family in the state that they are in, and I keep suggesting that she find a place where she can go and still live at home. I have found a website called career-education.net that helps people find training schools around the country, and there are schools close to where she lives that she could go to. I know that she could do that, but she is adamant about going to Hawaii. So until she changes her attitude about that I guess she will just keep on doing what she is doing!
I like to browse around the Internet and see what tickles my funny bone. There are a lot of interesting things going on out there! This morning I found a video that shows an eagle that adopted chicken eggs and is now raising the baby chicks. I wonder what will happen when the chickens get older? Will the eagle eat them? Anyway, here is the video, I found it on yahoo’s video link. Enjoy!
